Intel agent barges and spies into Gabriela Women’s Party Office
Gabriela Women’s Party (GWP) strongly condemned the surveillance and forced entry by an individual into its office in Project 4, Quezon City on August 19.
According to the group, an individual who introduced himself as Jayson Tiongson forced himself into the office. Despite the staff’s objections, Tiongson aggressively barged in, roamed the office, and observed the rooms.
When asked about his purpose, he gave no clear explanation. He initially asked for material donations for evacuees. He later produced an envelope and asked for money. Tiongson introduced himself as a member of Jesus Is Lord (JIL).
After the incident, GWP immediately contacted the JIL leadership in Quezon City, which confirmed that it had no member named Jayson Tiongson and no solicitation drive as the individual mentioned.
The group said this was the second attempt by the same individual to spy on and forcibly enter their office.
“This incident is part of the continuous attacks against progressive party-lists and organizations. The state has long carried out similar tactics, from surveillance to various forms of harassment, in an effort to terrorize and weaken progressive party-lists and organizations that relentlessly defend the people’s rights,” GWP explained.
“GWP will not be shaken in the face of harassment and threats. We will continue to fight for the rights, justice, and welfare of women and the toiling masses,” the group added.
