KMU denounces finance terrorism charges against Cordillera labor leader
The Kilusang Mayo Uno-Cordillera strongly denounced the filing of fabricated complaints against its spokesperson, Mike Cabangon. It also condemned the Marcos regime, the police, and their accomplices for violating human rights by weaponizing terror laws to silence the legitimate demands of workers.
On February 15, Cabangon received a complaint filed against him by the PNP-Crime Investigation Detection Group – Regional Force Unit 14 (PNP-CIDG-RFU14) for allegedly violating Section 8 of Republic Act No. 10168 (Terrorism Financing Prevention and Suppression Act of 2012) in two incidents.
Cabangon is the 12th progressive individual in Northern Luzon to be charged with fabricated complaints related to terrorism financing. According to KMU-Cordillera, this is part of the Marcos regime’s desperate attempt to be removed from the “grey list” of the Financial Action Task Force.
Cabangon is a worker advocating for the rights of his fellow workers, impoverished communities, and the transport sector in Baguio City and the entire region, according to KMU-Cordillera.
“Filing this type of fabricated case is a rotten tactic by the state to malign the fight for workers’ welfare and rights,” according to the KMU’s national office.
KMU calls on all workers in Cordillera and across the country to unite and resist state harassment and other attacks against their ranks. “It is righteous to fight for wages, jobs, and rights,” it said.
