Kowloon House workers launch strike
Workers at Kowloon House on West Avenue in Quezon City launched their strike on April 15. They went on strike due to the management’s wage suppression tactics in negotiations for a new collective bargaining agreement (CBA) and its refusal to implement the wage increase stipulated in the previous CBA. All workers voted to hold the strike on April 8. They are represented in the negotiations by their union, the Genuine Labor Organization of Workers in Hotels, Restaurants and Allied Industries (GLOWHRAIN-KMU) – Kowloon House West Chapter.
The company’s final offer was a ₱13 daily wage increase, far below the workers’ demand of ₱25, which was the agreed wage increase under their 2020–2022 CBA.
According to the union, the company already owes the workers around ₱5.5 million in unpaid wages and benefits. On top of this, more than ₱500,000 in service charges—won by the union in the past CBA—remain unremitted.
The union’s immediate demands are a substantial ₱50 wage hike and compliance with the ₱180 increase stipulated in the previous CBA; enforcement of the across-the-board wage increase provision in the CBA; humane working conditions; and respect for the union.
The company deliberately delayed the CBA negotiations that began back in August 2025. It withheld the firm’s financial records from the union and repeatedly replaced its representatives and lawyers to obstruct the talks.
