Marikina City residents clamor against corruption, militarization
Members of the Gabriela Women’s Party (GWP)-Marikina launched a noise barrage and protest at the Tumana Public Market on July 4 to condemn the harassment of the 12th Civil Military Operations (CMO) Battalion in their community at the Agora Compound in Barangay Sto. Niño, Marikina City.
Soldiers are currently conducting massive profiling, surveillance, and red-tagging of community leaders under the guise of the Community Support Program. They have turned the old barangay hall building of Barangay Sto. Niño into a barracks, even as it violates international humanitarian laws.
The groups demanded that the 12th CMO leave and stop its operations in Marikina and the whole of Metro Manila.
