Bayan Muna and its sister parties sympathized with the residents affected by the disaster caused by the eruption of the Kanlaon Volcano on the night of June 3. The volcano spewed thick smoke reaching 5,000 meters. From June 4, it also began to release lahar that flowed into rivers and waterfalls, and overflowed onto roads.

“Sa mga kasimanwa sa Negros, halong gid!” (“To Negros compatriots, keep safe!”) Bayan Muna Partylist called. The city of Canlaon and the municipality of La Castellana are currently in a state of calamity.

The lahar has reached the barangays at the foot of the volcano while ashfall covered farms in six barangays of La Castellana. More than 232 families or 1,500 residents were forced to evacuate their homes due to the volcanic eruption. Many of them are now temporarily staying in the La Castellana town center.

Kanlaon is still at Alert Level 2 which prohibits the public from entering and staying within the 4-kilometer radius Permanent Danger Zone.

The Philippine Institute of Volcanology and Seismology (Phivolcs) said Kanlaon last erupted in 2017. Its first recorded eruption was in 1819.
