The revolutionary movement in Quezon salutes the American people in their decisive victory to end Donald Trump’s racism, misogyny and jingoism. Filipino compatriots, alongside people of color, migrants and American democrats not only foiled Trump’s assault on American democracy but also served the democratic cause of the people in the colonies and semi-colonies of American imperialism. Trump’s defeat is most welcome in the Philippines.

Under Trump’s presidency, the Duterte regime has been emboldened by his brazen patronage of the brutal war on drugs, the Moro and the entire Filipino people. Duterte promised to crush the Filipino people’s revolutionary movement within his term with the assurance of American financial and military aid. It is only fitting for Donald Trump to be severely isolated and eventually voted out of the Oval Office for his grievous offenses against the American people and the people of the world.

Before their victory in the elections, the American people have taken their struggle in the streets amid the Covid-19 pandemic. They have correctly identified and have decisively resolved that the most pressing concern for the American people at the moment is Trump’s virulent attack on their democratic rights and institutions which hampered a timely and sensible response to the health crises. They were uncowered by the virus hysteria and Trump’s fascistic tendencies and with that the Filipino people could draw inspiration and hope. Duterte must be turning in his sleep as his fellow tyrant’s fall becomes his nightmare.

Opportunities are open for American democrats who are opposed to Trump’s policies in the Philippines to push Joe Biden’s government to withdraw American support to the tyrant Duterte while they persist in their stuggle for equality at home. The American people must understand that US imperialism must die so that the American people, and the people of the world, can live free.#
