Youth oppose budget for fascism and corruption. On September 29, two days after the national budget for 2024 was railroaded in Congress, students staged indignation protests in seven universities in Metro Manila and Iloilo City.

National-democratic organizations also protested in front of Congress on September 26 to denounce Sara Duterte’s squandering of public funds and oppose her request for confidential and intelligence funds.

Fight for teachers’ rights. In commemoration of World Teacher’s Day last October 5, hundreds of teachers spearheaded by the Alliance of Concerned Teachers staged a Unity Walk from the University of Santo Tomas to Mendiola in Manila. They called for increases in teachers’ salaries and solutions to problems of the country’s education sector.

Farmers’ camp in Antipolo. Farmers under the Pagkakaisa at Bukluran ng Magsasaka sa Napatong Inc launched on September 18 a one week camp in Sitio Nagabat, Barangay San Jose, Antipolo City. The camp aims to demand their right to the land which they have been tilling for two decades. They are also calling for a dialogue with the governor of the province.

Meanwhile, the group also staged protests and held a dialogue with the Antipolo City mayor last October 4.

Indict the fascist military! Two consecutive actions were launched by youth and workers in Metro Manila on October 4 and 5 to condemn the abduction and ongoing detention of three defenders of indigenous peoples in Mindoro, and the killing of workers’ organizer Jude Fernandez by state agents.

Before this, youth groups staged a lightning rally in front of Camp Aguinaldo in Quezon City on September 23 to demand AFP accountability for cases of enforced disappearances.

Palparan’s acquittal condemned. Human rights groups protested in front of the court in Malolos, Bulacan on October 6 to condemn the acquittal of M/Gen. Jovito Palparan on cases of kidnapping, illegal detention and injuries. These cases were filed by brothers Raymond and Reynaldo Manalo against the butcher general. Another protest was held in the evening in Quezon City.

Dismiss fabricated charges against CERNET. Democratic organizations led by Bayan-Cebu picketed the DOJ-Region 7 on September 27 during preliminary investigation hearings into the “terrorist financing” case filed by the AFP against the Community Empowerment Resource Network, Inc. (CERNET).
