Families of missing cockfighters hold mass and picket for justice
Families of the missing cockfighters, church members, and human rights defenders held a mass and picket on October 30 in front of the Manila Arena in Sta. Ana and at the Department of Justice (DOJ) on Padre Faura in Manila. The Justice for Missing Sabungeros Network (JMSN) led the activities to call for truth, justice, and accountability.
The network conducted the mass in front of the Manila Arena where the missing cockfighters were last traced. The arena is owned by Charlie “Atong” Ang, who is also considered to be behind the disappearance of the victims.
Between April 2021 and January 2022, more than 30 cockfighters reportedly went missing for still unknown reasons. All of them were linked to e-sabong operations. In mid-2025, a whistleblower connected their disappearance to Ang, Gretchen Barretto, and police officials.
Years later, JMSN has expressed disappointment over the snail-paced progress of the case to achieve justice and hold those behind the disappearance of their relatives accountable. The group called on the DOJ to stop delaying, name those involved, and bring Ang and his accomplices to court.
