Kadamay (Kalipunan ng Damayang Mahihirap)-Davao condemned the threat of demolition against 47 households in Dalat, San Roque, Davao City on December 10. Residents said the threat of eviction came from Atty. Elisio Braganza’s office.

On that day, Davao City Local Government Unit (LGU) representatives, particularly from the City Engineering Office, visited the community. The residents were extremely worried for their homes and rights.

According to Kadamay-Davao, the threat of demolition is a blatant disregard for the community’s welfare and even timed with the observance of International Human Rights Day. “We strongly urge the immediate halt of the unjust demolition and intimidation, and provide the affected families with proper relocation and adequate compensation,” the group stated.

The group urged the Davao urban poor to unite and organize to express and expose the issues and the human rights violations confronting them. Meanwhile, Gabriela Women’s Party-Southern Mindanao expressed solidarity with the urban poor. “Stand with the community,” Dra.
