Prices of noche buena food items rise in November

The Department of Trade and Industry (DTI) released a price list on November 16, where prices of almost half, or 43.1%, of noche buena food items had already rose this November. The list includes 236 different stock keeping units (SKUs) across 12 food categories. The prices listed are the suggested retail prices (SRPs) for large supermarkets and grocery stores. Prices may vary in smaller stores.

Prices increased for 102 SKUs, while the prices of 121 SKUs remained the same as they were in 2023. Only 13 SKUs saw a price decrease. Among the items that increased in price are certain types of ham, all types of fruit cocktail, certain types of cheese, spaghetti noodles, elbow macaroni, salad macaroni, tomato sauce, and almost all types of spaghetti sauce. The price of fruit cocktail saw the largest increase at more than ₱9.

In contrast, only seven regional wage boards have increased wages this year. The increases are relatively small, such as ₱30/day (Western Visayas, Davao, and Northern Mindanao), ₱40/day (NCR, Central Luzon, and Calabarzon), and ₱50/day (Eastern Visayas).
