The people will hold Marcos accountable on September 21—Bayan

,

The Bagong Alyansang Makabayan (Bayan) and all its allied organizations will march to Malacañang on September 21 to condemn the corrupt, puppet, and fascist Marcos regime. They will march from Luneta Park after a large demonstration led by TAMA NA (Taumbayan Ayaw sa Magnanakaw at Abusado Network Alliance) against breach of public trust and corruption.

According to Bayan, the day of protest on September 21 must culminate in Malacañang, which it called the “ground zero” of corruption and impunity in the country. “To demand accountability and justice, and to denounce the anti-Filipino and anti-poor leadership of Marcos Jr,” the group declared.

The group identifies Marcos Jr as the main beneficiary and commander-in-thief of the corrupt political system. “Marcos Jr drafted and signed the corruption-tainted national budget, allowed pork barrel insertions, implemented anomalous flood control projects, and blocked the people’s demand to probe his anomalous use of confidential and intelligence funds,” the group stated.

Bayan condemned Marcos last week for trying to pass himself off as “anti-corruption” to calm the Filipino people’s uprising. The group also condemned Marcos for other deceptive schemes such as creating an “independent commission,” government revamps, and others.

The group also refuted Marcos’s claim of being different from the corrupt and fascist Duterte regime. They refer to the Marcos regime extending the National Task Force-Elcac’s mandate, while using his National Action Plan for Unity, Peace, and Development as a framework for intensified repression, militarization, and attacks on rural communities and poor communities. They hold both the Marcoses and Dutertes accountable.

“In the past three years, the Marcos administration has also proven its puppetry to US imperialism by allowing the expansion of US military facilities and the expanded foreign plunder of our patrimony and exploitation of our workers,” the group said.

Bayan holds Marcos accountable for his crimes against the Filipino people, and the September 21 protest in Mendiola will declare this. The rally on September 21 is also a reminder of the US-Marcos dictatorship’s plunder and repression that dragged the country into poverty.
