Another “safe zone” in Gaza was brutally attacked by the US-Israel forces on July 13.

US-Israel bombarded al-Mawasi, an evacuation zone housing 80,000 displaced Palestinians, on the border between Khan Younis and Rafah. This resulted in the death of 90 Palestinians and the wounding of over 300 others. Five bombs and five missiles were dropped on the tents of the victims. The area’s water distillation facility was also hit.

Hamas strongly condemned the bombing of the zone. “This is clear and unequivocal confirmation from the Zionist government that it will continue its war of extermination against the Palestinian people by repeatedly and systematically targeting defenseless displaced civilians who are besieged in tents, shelters and residential areas,” Hamas said.

US-Israeli attacks on “safe zones” have repeatedly been conducted by Israeli forces on the pretext that Hamas is using civilians as “human shields”. “(Israel) uses this to justify the killing of civilians,” journalists in Gaza who witnessed the attacks said.

Before the latest attack, 21 people were killed when Israel bombed displaced people’s tents in al-Mawasi in May. In June, US-Israel killed 274 civilians in the Nuseirat refugee camp.

The United Nations (UN) also condemned this latest massacre in Gaza. It called for respect for humanitarian law, including the principles of “distinction, proportionality and precaution against any attack at all times.”

The governments of Malaysia, Colombia, Oman, the United Arab Emirates, Iran and Qatar also expressed strong condemnation of the incident. Like its imperialist master the US, the Marcos regime made no condemnation on Zionist Israel’s latest crime.
