Youth groups protest Imee Marcos visit to UP Diliman

,

Youth groups marched in protest to the Alumni House at the University of the Philippines (UP)-Diliman upon learning of the arrival on campus of the dictator’s daughter Imee Marcos last February 2. They slammed and condemned the “National Assembly and Unification Summit” launched by the People’s Progressive Humanist Liberal Party (PolPHIL) which Imee attended.

The students reportedly learned of Imee’s arrival after seeing the presence of a large number of Philippine National Police (PNP) personnel and a large tarpolin with her face on it.

“Imee Marcos and the PNP are not welcome in UP!” the UP Diliman University Student Council (USC) stated. They said the violent and fascist history of the Marcoses and the PNP is a gross desecration of UP’s space and its academic freedom.

The League of Filipino Students (LFS)-UP Diliman called Imee’s trip to UP as part of the “historical revisionism” campaign and the Marcos family’s “fake news” dissemination. “The change that Imee Marcos is spreading is false and the kindness she shows in her millions’ worth political ads is fake,” according to the group.

Imee is one of the senatorial candidates in the 2025 election. The Marcos family and the Ferdinand Marcos Jr regime have already invested a huge amount for her candidacy.

“In the upcoming election, let’s not forget the blood owed by the Marcos family. Let’s not forget the wealth stolen and being stolen by their family,” LFS-UP Diliman called on fellow young people.

The youths painted Imee’s tarpaulin during the activity. They painted it with a big graffiti “don’t vote” and attached the sticker calling her a thief.
