The National Democratic Front (NDF) – Negros condemns in the strongest terms the relentless bombing by the Philippine Army of the hinterlands of Himamaylan City, Negros Occidental since Thursday, October 6.

We have just received reports from Mount Cansermon Command – NPA South Central Negros Front (MCC-NPA) that Sitio Double Yarding, Barangay Mahalang in Himamaylan City was bombed yesterday and this morning. Bombing incidents lasting for 20 minutes were reported this morning as well in Sitio Cunalom and parts of Casipungan, Cambulan, Pangi and Igaw, all of Barangay Carabalan.

Meanwhile, reports are also coming in that 94IB troops in Sitio Sig-ang destroyed the house of the Tabuyo family and slaughtered their farm animals. Soldiers are ransacking houses while residents are in evacuation areas fearing military presence in their communities.

These attacks are extremely alarming and instils terror among the people of Himamaylan and neighboring areas.

The NDF-Negros calls on the people to remain united in resisting state fascism and expose these atrocities to the public. It is of utmost urgency to demand respect for human rights and observance of international humanitarian law.

The local government unit of Himamaylan City should not just standby and allow these attacks against its constituents. The LGU should assert civilian supremacy and demand an end to the militarization of Himamaylan City.

If left unchecked, the AFP’s bombing frenzy may escalate into an airstrike which will cause grave destruction on the communities and also the environment. In July 2022, Pasaporte already bragged of their capability to launch air strikes in Negros Island.

The revolutionary movement has been consistent that economic interests of foreign companies and local compradors in Himamaylan City is behind the increasing militarization of the area in the guise of counter-insurgency.
