Unrelenting human rights violations
Cases of human rights violations across the country perpetrated by state forces continued to increase in recent weeks.
Killings. Nenita Buscada, an indigenous person, was brutally killed by the 88th IB in Barangay Saint Peter, Malaybalay City on June 15. Buscada was with her husband and two other civilians heading to the forest to gather wood when they were suddenly fired upon by the 8th IB.
Attempted killing. Olid Yanay, 18, was shot by the 43rd IB in Barangay Caputoan, Las Navas, Northern Samar on the morning of June 13. Soldiers also fired three rounds from an M203 grenade launcher. Olid was able to escape and survived the shooting.
Arrest. Farmer Anthony Biñas was arrested by police and the 85th IB on June 19 in Quezon. He was kept hidden by the police and was only located on June 28 at the Quezon District Jail, where he faces attempted murder charges.
Meanwhile, human rights violations have piled up in recent weeks amid heavy militarization in Las Navas, Northern Samar; in Guihulngan City, Negros Oriental; in the towns of Isabela and Binalbagan in Negros Occidental; and even in Marikina City.
