The New People’s Army (NPA)-Central Negros (Leonardo Panaligan Command) fired on a 7-man 62nd IB team in Sitio Balingos, Barangay Hinakpan, Guihulngan City, Negros Oriental on the afternoon of July 1. One soldier was killed, while three were wounded. The Red fighters were only five meters away from the fascist forces when they opened fire.

The 62nd IB troopers hit by the NPA served as a blocking force for dozens of other troopers carrying out a campaign of encirclement and annihilation against the NPA unit. The NPA unit was maneuvering out of the encirclement when it spotted the small military unit.

“To cover up their shame, the military deliberately hid from the public their casualties in the clash,” Regalado said. According to the unit, the NPA attack was a major blow to the military, especially as the scope of focused and sustained military operations in Central Negros remains wide.

Meanwhile, the Special Partisan Unit (SPARU) of NPA-Northern Negros (Roselyn Jean Pelle Command) carried out the death penalty against military agent Jerome Ceballos, 59, in Sitio Singko, Barangay Gawahaon, Victorias City, Negros Occidental on July 10. The unit confiscated a .45 caliber gun from him.

The punitive action implemented the order of the local revolutionary people’s court which found Ceballos guilty of a series of crimes against the revolution and the people of Negros. The revolutionary court’s investigation found that he was an intelligence agent of the Intelligence Service of the Armed Forces of the Philippines (ISAFP). The military ordered him to contact the revolutionary movement, pose as an ally, and monitor the movements of the NPA in the area.

His crimes include his involvement in the massacre in Negros 19 on April 19 in Barangay Salamanca, Toboso. The 79th IB massacred 10 Red fighters of NPA-Northern Negros and nine unarmed individuals. Ceballos was also responsible for the kidnapping, torture, and killing by the military and police of Nonoy Ponteras (Ka Jojo), a National Democratic Front-Negros official, and staff member Marisa Pobresa (Ka Kim) in March 2025.
