Strike at US sugar refinery

,

National Democratic Filipino groups in the US joined the strike of workers at the C&H Sugar Refinery in Crockett, Contra Costa County, California.

C&H (California & Hawaii) Sugar is owned by American Sugar Refining Group, the world’s largest refiner and seller of sugar from sugar cane from sources worldwide, including supplies from Negros Island. It is one of the monopoly sugar corporations in the US. The company earns about $1.6 billion from importing cheap, unrefined sugar.

More than 100 C&H Sugar workers went on strike on June 15 to protest the company’s anti-worker proposals. They are members of the International Longshore & Warehouse Union Local 6.
