Community in Cupang Muntinlupa illegally demolished
Onboard 10 L300 vans, members of a demolition team surreptitiously entered the communities of Acero, Immaculate Concepcion, and Sto. Niño in barangay Cupang, Muntinlupa, at 10 p.m. on September 7.
Upon noticing the furtive entry, some youths immediately alerted the community about the demolition that was about to happen. The demolition team held and beat up Francis Ramil Areglado when caught livestreaming the demolition on Facebook. They later took him to the Cupang barangay hall where he was forced to sign an agreement, in exchange of not being charged.
According to Karapatan NCR, Areglado signed due to fear and trauma from the beating he received.
The residents tried to hold a dialogue with the sheriff, saying that a Motion for Reconsideration have been filed in court on September 5. They requested that the demolition be postponed while their case over land ownership was still being heard. The sheriff disregarded the request and carried on with the demolition.
At present, 74 families who lost their homes are cramped in an alley of Acero Compound, as personnel from the the Ayala Steel Manufacturing Inc. personnel continue to demolish their communities.
