CPP, national democratic organizations condemn US-Israel attacks against Iran

Led by Bagong Alyansang Makabayan (Bayan), various organizations held a protest action on June 22 at Boy Scout Circle, Quezon City to condemn the US bombing of Iran. the bombing is a direct act of aggression against a sovereign country and violates international law, they said.

At the same time, Anakbayan Panay and other organizations held a candle lighting protest to condemn the US attack and to express solidarity with Iran and Palestine.

Bayan-Central Visayas also held a protest action on June 24 in Cebu City against the petroleum products price increase and to condemn the US attack on Iran. During the protest, activists carried the Palestine flag and tore up a photo of Trump and a US flag.

Recall that on June 22, at dawn in Iran, the US bombed three major nuclear facilities in Iran: Fordow, Natanz, and Isfahan. The US used six B-2 stealth bombers that dropped 30,000-pound bombs called “bunker busters” to destroy the underground facilities that generate electricity.

Even without evidence, Trump insists that Iran uses these facilities to produce nuclear weapons. In addition, the US Navy also launched Tomahawk cruise missiles from a submarine as part of a coordinated offensive.

“The Trump regime is triggering a regional conflagration by bombing Iran and backing Israel’s earlier strikes on Iran. Now that the US has directly involved itself, the conflict will escalate and will have far-reaching repercussions on the world,” Bayan president Renato Reyes explained.

Former Bayan Muna representative Atty. Carlos Zarate warned about the war’s economic impact, particularly petroleum product price increase.

“This unwarranted military aggression will not only destabilize the region further, but also have severe repercussions for the Philippines. It will drive up global oil prices and exacerbate economic hardships for ordinary Filipinos,” he said.

The Kilusang Magbubukid ng Pilipinas and Unyon ng Manggagawa sa Agricultura (UMA) expressed solidarity with the people of Iran and the peoples of oppressed countries in the anti-US imperialism struggle.

According to the KMP, US aggression is part of the broad imperialist aim of the US to exploit, occupy, and militarize countries for its own geopolitical and economic benefit. “The same imperialist interests that devastate the Middle East are also behind militarization, plunder, and land grabbing in the Philippines and other oppressed countries.”

The Communist Party of the Philippines strongly condemned the US bombing, which followed more than a week of relentless Israeli attacks. The party’s chief information officer Marco L. Valbuena said the bombing is “a blatant violation of Iran’s sovereignty and a serious breach of international law.”

“The ‘preemptive strikes’ carried out by the US and Israel are based on the same lies used by the imperialist US before about ‘weapons of mass destruction’ to justify the invasion of Iraq and the ousting of Saddam Hussein, 20 years ago,” Valbuena said.

“The strategic objective of the attack by Israel and the US on Iran is to impose US imperialist hegemony in the Middle East and control the vast oil resources of the region.”

The CPP warned of the danger of a wider war in the region, which will surely affect millions of civilians, including Filipino migrant workers.

“All democratic forces in the world should support Iran, as well as the Palestinian people, in fighting the US-Israeli war machine currently ravaging the Middle East to subjugate countries to their power and force them surrender their freedom,” said the CPP.
