Migrants condemn Canada government for persecuting migrants
Migrante Canada strongly condemned the government’s persecution of migrants implemented by the Canada Border Services Agency (CBSA).
According to the report, the CBSA quietly raided migrants’ workplaces in Calgary and Victoria such as construction sites, restaurants, and farms. The raids terrorized not only migrant communities but the entire nation of Canada.
The government absolved itself and claimed that the CBSA’s persecution is actually an investigation into the implementation of the Immigration and Refugee Protection Act or the law for immigrants and refugees.
The CBSA announced on October 17 the deployment of an additional 1,000 officers to intensify the pursuit of immigrants and speed up their deportation from the country. At present, it mainly targets migrants from India, those whose visas have expired, those with criminal cases, and those who applied as refugees but were denied. Based on official data, Indians rank second to Mexicans in the highest number of deportations in the country. A total of 2,209 Indians have been deported since April 2024.
“We must continue to denounce all forms of attacks on migrant communities from xenophobia, passing of anti-migrant legislations and the scapegoating of migrants,” the group explained.
“We call on fellow Filipinos, fellow migrants, and allies to be vigilant against these attacks,” the group declared.
