National democratic organizations in the US join widespread protests against the Trump administration
Millions of US citizens held protests dubbed ‘No Kings Day’ on June 14 to oppose the Trump regime’s fascism and anti-people policies. Up to 2,000 protests in 1,500 cities took place across the country.
The protest was called ‘No Kings’ to oppose Trump’s who is acting like a king instead of an elected president. Concurrently, it called for Trump’s removal from his “throne.” This was the largest coordinated protest launched against his administration since he began his second term.
The protest was concurrently held with a military parade in Washington for the US army’s 250th anniversary, also celebrating Trump’s 79th birthday.
In Los Angeles, this protest followed more than a week of widespread demonstrations against the pursuit of immigrants and the deployment of the National Guard and Marines in the city. Migrante LA, Anakbayan LA, Gabriela LA, and the National Alliance for Filipino Concerns (NAFCON) participated in the protests. ICE detained up to 330 immigrants since June 6.
Alongside the participation of national democratic organizations in ‘No Kings,’ Anakbayan Philadelphia members hung a streamer with the call “US Out of the Philippines” on Vine Street Expressway, Philadelphia.
On the occasion of the 127th Philippine Independence Day on June 12, Anakbayan Philadelphia held a rally in Chinatown. The action received support from allied organizations including the Asian Pacific American Labor Alliance Philly, Freedom Road Socialist Organization Philly, Philadelphia SJP Coalition, Black Alliance for Peace Philly, Lal Morich Philly, Philly Alliance Against Racist & Political Repression, Workers World Philly, Koreans 4 Decolonization at Upenn, and Korea Peace Committee.
During the protest, they condemned the US-Marcos regime’s puppetry to US imperialism and its neglect of the ICE-detained Filipino immigrants’ grievances. According to them, the Filipino people deserve four freedoms: freedom from detention and deportation, economic exploitation, US militarization, tyranny, and dirty politics.
“As youth and students, we urge our young people to take action. Our role as youth and students is to challege this fascists governments and remember that this is our future. We are the one to change it,” the Anakbayan Philadelphia spokesperson said.
