NPA harassment operation injures 2 94th IB soldiers
The New People’s Army (NPA)-South Central Negros (Romeo Nanta Command) launched a harassment operation against 94th IB troopers in Sitio Cantupa, Barangay Buenavista, Himamaylan City, Negros Occidental on the night of October 27. No fewer than two of the bloodstained soldiers were wounded.
The soldiers scampered in different directions and only managed to return fire at the NPA after a few seconds. The 94th IB indiscriminately fired their machine guns and M203 in the area. Meanwhile, the NPA-South Central Negros unit safely maneuvered away from the scene.
The 94th IB unit attacked by the Red fighters has been sowing terror in the community and encamping in civilian areas since October 16. It imposed military rule on the peasant community and prohibited them from moving and farming freely. The soldiers’ restrictions forced residents to neglect their crops and livestock.
The soldiers instigated antisocial activities such as drinking, gambling, and the dissemination of pornography. The NPA-South Central Negros reported that the 94th IB troops were drunk on the night they were attacked by the unit.
“This tactical offensive is the NPA-South Central Negros’ response to the 94th IB’s rampant human rights violations against the people,” unit spokesperson Ka Dionesio Magbuelas said.
