Peasants condemn NTF-Elcac' harassment against organizer in Southern Tagalog
The Katipunan ng mga Samahang Magbubukid sa Timog Katagalugan (Kasama-TK, or Alliance of Peasant Associations in Southern Tagalog) strongly condemned the NTF-Elcac for its continued red-tagging, harassment, and intimidation against its deputy secretary general Jeverlyn Saguin.
Posts maliciously linking Saguin to the revolutionary movement spread on Facebook in recent weeks. The Armed Forces of the Philippines Southern Luzon Command led the campaign. It also distributed leaflets red-tagging Saguin in Dasmariñas, Cavite, nearby barangays, and within the community of Lupang Ramos. Incidents of surveillance, illegal photographing, and flying of drones over the house where she stays were also reported.
Saguin first experienced threats, harassment, and intimidation from the NTF-Elcac in 2024. In March 2024, police officers and 59th IB elements aimed guns at her and her companions while they were conducting research on the effects of El Niño on farmers in Batangas. The PNP Silang also spread photos of her at the protest camp of farmers in Barangay Tartaria, Silang, Cavite.
According to the group, the harassment Saguin is experiencing is not uncommon. The NTF-Elcac successive operations target farmer-leaders, workers, youth, and the poor in the region. They aim to suppress resistance against the country’s rotten system. As worsening bureaucratic corruption drives the people to hold Marcos and Duterte accountable, the state does everything to silence those who enlighten, organize, and mobilize the people.
“Let us collectively hold the US-Marcos Jr regime and the AFP accountable for their long list of human rights violations in Southern Tagalog. Only through the relentless assertion and collective action of the Filipino masses can the fascist US-Marcos Jr regime’s human rights violations be held to account and the NTF-Elcac be dismantled,” Kasama-TK said.
The Bagong Alyansang Makabayan-Laguna, Anakbayan Laguna, Southern Tagalog Cultural Alliance, Kabataan Partylist-Rizal, Tanggol Quezon, Defend Southern Tagalog, Kabataan Partylist-Laguna, and Sugarfolks’ Unity for Genuine Agricultural Reform-Batangas expressed solidarity with Saguin.
