Southern Tagalog workers condemn corruption in the NLRC and DPWH

Pagkakaisa ng mga Manggagawa sa Timog Katagalugan-Kilusang Mayo Uno (PAMANTIK-KMU) picketed before the National Labor Relations Commission (NLRC) Regional Arbitration Branch No. 4 on November 17. They condemned the agency’s slow and unjust decisions on cases concerning workers’ job security.

The protest was held in time with the agency’s hearing on illegal dismissal cases.

During the protest, the workers exposed the corruption within the NLRC, such as case mediators receiving food and gifts from capitalists. They said this is only one example of the ongoing corruption in the national government.

Among the cases being heard at the NLRC were those involving workers from Lazada, Shopee, KARELAI, NEXPERIA, PILA, PLUS, FORGENS, JP MARSAN, DEKALIBER, GLOBAL, DO1, and Coke.

After the program at the NLRC, the workers trooped to the Department of Public Works and Highways (DPWH IV-A) regional office to denounce the widespread corruption in infrastructure projects.

Workers said communities in the region suffer from severe flooding despite the billions allocated by the department for infrastructure and flood control projects. The most severe flooding occurs in the towns of Biñan, Sta. Rosa, Calamba, and San Pedro in Laguna; Bacoor, Tanza, Naic, Rosario, and Cavite City in Cavite; and in Oriental Mindoro.

The Makabayan bloc explosed that 144 projects that are part of Marcos Jr’s “insertion” went to Southern Tagalog, amounting to more than ₱28 billion for the year 2025.

At the end of the program, the workers invited participation in the November 30 protest against corruption and bureaucrat capitalism.
