Wyeth-Nestle and workers' union successfully concludes CBA
On December 9, the Wyeth Philippines Progressive Workers Union announced the formal conclusion and agreements achieved in its negotiations for the collective bargaining agreement with the Wyeth-Nestle management.
The union reported that it successfully secured a ₱6,000 wage increase, which is 43% higher compared to the previous CBA. The union’s renewed collective fight also gained a ₱30,000 signing bonus and benefits.
“We fought against wage suppression, intimidation, and repression—and we prevailed,” the union declared.
Before the agreement, the management attempted to reduce wages and the company’s premiums or contributions to workers’ benefits such as social security. It also pressured the workers and their union by restricting the union’s funds.
“In our CBA campaign, we boldly faced Wyeth-Nestle’s greed for profit,” the union stated. The company’s schemes included implementing a flexible labor policy through clustering. The workers also faced years of harassment from both the government and the company through the NTF-ELCAC.
“They tried to silence, weaken, and divide us—but we stood firm,” the union said.
Workers presently continue to face the clustering scheme that increases their workload without proper compensation. While their wages remain low, prices of goods keep rising, contractual workers multiply, and threats of layoffs persist.
The union plans to continue its collective struggle against clustering and further advance the rights and welfare of the workers within its scope.
