Youth group condemns harassment of 2 youth leaders in CDO
Amid the people’s widespread anti-corruption outrage, the Marcos regime is intensifying its harassment and repression of the youth and the people.
In Cagayan de Oro, two young activists were blatantly surveilled clearly aiming to intimidate. One of them was the Kabataan Party-list Northern Mindanao (KPL) coordinator and the other was KPL member Cyrus Adrian Rom.
“Rain or shine, the state’s fascism persists! Instead of jailing the corrupt, Marcos Jr relentlessly attacks the youth and the Filipino people!” Kabataan Party-list in Northern Mindanao (KPL-NMR), the two activists’ organization.
On November 5, a man on a motorcycle tailed KPL-NMR’s coordinator. The man followed him until he entered Xavier University, where he is studying. On November 3, his parents were also surveilled. The KPL-NMR denounced both incidents as threats not only to his security but also to that of his parents.
On November 4, the former Anakbayan-Cebu chairperson Rom was also stalked by three policemen carrying .45 caliber pistols. They followed him until he entered a café.
“The state is clearly using the same pattern of intimidation against critical youth who are being served subpoenas simply for protesting against corruption,” it said. Instead of imprisoning the corrupt, the PNP, AFP, and the NTF-Elcac, are harassing and threatening the youth and ordinary citizens.
“(They must) stop surveilling youth leaders and other activists and progressive citizens. The confidential intelligence funds used to spy on activists must also be stopped, and these funds should be reallocated to public services,” it added.
The KPL-NMR urged fellow youth to resist the fascism of the state and the Marcos regime.
