Highest tribute to Ka Amek, valiant communist and hero of the Filipino people
On behalf of the entire membership of the Communist Party of the Philippines and the Red commanders and fighters of the New People’s Army, the Central Committee pays profound respect to Comrade Amek (Reynalde Erecre), beloved servant of the peasant masses and farmworkers of Negros and Bohol, valiant communist and hero of the working class and the Filipino people.
Ka Amek was born in Maco, Davao de Oro (formerly Compostela Valley) in 1974 from lower petty-bourgeois roots. He took a Bachelor of Science in Education course at the University of Mindanao in Tagum City. For five years, he worked as a contractual worker in a plywood factory to fund his studies.
During his younger days, Ka Amek visited a camp of the New People’s Army. Having personally experienced poverty and oppression, he easily understood and embraced the revolutionary cause. Soon after, he joined the army units in mass work and military operations.
Ka Amek joined the Party in 1997, during its resurgence brought about by the Second Great Rectification Movement. Due to his competence and diligence, after two years, he was elected to the Regional Committee in the conference held in 1999. He was appointed vice platoon leader of the center of gravity platoon. He was elected member of the Party’s Regional Committee for Central Visayas in the conference held in 2002. He became a political instructor in a platoon formed in southeast Negros in 2004 and was designated as a member of the Executive Committee of the Regional Committee for Central Visayas in the same year.
Ka Amek played a significant role in building and strengthening the NPA in Bohol and Negros. He was part of the NPA force that launched tactical offensives in Bohol, including the raid in Batuan town that seized over 80 firearms. In 2013, he took charge as platoon leader of the regional center of gravity under the Regional Committee in Negros, and was promoted to company commander three years later. By 2019, Ka Amek was appointed as regional commander of the NPA in Negros.
As a Party member and leader, Ka Amek diligently studied Marxism-Leninism-Maoism. He set aside time to read the classic writings of great communist thinkers and to study philosophy, the theory of people’s war, and others. In 2023, he assumed the role of secretary for the Party’s Negros Regional Committee. Ka Amek played a major role in applying the lessons of the rectification movement in Negros. Through self-criticism and setting himself as example for leading cadres in Negros, Ka Amek was able to firmly consolidate the Regional Committee and, under its leadership, resolutely invigorate the revolutionary movement on the island. In 2025, he was designated as a member of the Party’s Central Committee.
On January 30, while traversing sugarcane plantations in Barangay Bi-ao, Binalbagan, Negros Occidental, a group of Red fighters that included Ka Amek encountered fascist troops under the AFP’s 94th Infantry Battalion. Ka Amek was separated from his unit. Local residents were mobilized to rescue him, but were unable to, as he was tracked down and captured by the enemy a few hours later.
Instead of respecting his rights as a prisoner of war under the laws of war or even under Philippine reactionary law, Ka Amek was summarily executed by the fascist butchers. Using excessive force, the enemy riddled Ka Amek with bullets leaving his remains beyond recognition.
The imperialists, comprador bourgeoisie, and big landlords are gloating over Ka Amek’s demise. For a long time, Ka Amek was a thorn in the side of the reactionary classes. In stark contrast, the people mourn his death, with a grief as heavy as Mount Kanlaon bearing down on the hearts of workers, the peasant masses, farmworkers, and all toiling masses who suffer the worst forms of exploitation and oppression. The Party and the entire revolutionary movement extend deepest condolences to Ka Amek’s wife, children, and kin.
The fascists and reactionaries are mistaken in thinking that by ending Ka Amek’s life, they could stop the rising tide of the masses’ rebellion. As they grieve, the fire of resistance fills their hearts. The blood shed by Ka Amek further nourished the ground from which new sons and daughters of the people will emerge to continue the unfinished revolution.
The Party cadres in Negros are fully prepared to take on the duties and responsibilities left by Ka Amek. Guided by the Central Committee, they are determined to continue strengthening the Party and stand at the forefront of the mass struggles and armed struggles in Negros. As surely as the sun rises every day in the east, new cadres and mass leaders will emerge to continue the revolution in Negros and throughout the country.
Let us forever remember Ka Amek’s legacy and contributions to the Philippine revolution. Let us draw inspiration from his life of selfless service to the oppressed and exploited masses, and in advancing the people’s democratic revolution to achieve the people’s aspirations for national liberation and a socialist future.
