On the MSU bombing

The Communist Party of the Philippines (CPP) condemns the bombing inside the Mindanao State University campus in Marawi City this morning which according to reports resulted in the deaths of at least eleven people and injury to scores of others. The Party commiserates with the families and relatives of the victims.

The Party urges the Filipino people to be wary and vigilant as to who the real perpetrators of this crime are, and where this incident may possibly lead to.

It is curious, to say the least, that Marcos, military generals and his security officials were quick to denounce “foreign terrorists,” even before a spurious group would claim responsibility and despite the fact that a thorough investigation into the incident has yet to be conducted. It is a fact that Marawi City remains under heavy military presence, and hosts US military forces in Camp Ranao.

We hear strong echoes of the Davao City market bombing of 2016 which led to the US-supported AFP bombardment of Marawi City in 2017 under the guise of “fighting foreign terrorists;” and the Oplan Greenbase bombings (2002-2003) of Mindanao cities, which was believed to have been masterminded by military generals on US prodding, to justify the US “war on terror” in the Philippines.
