62nd IB soldiers sow terror anew in Central Negros
The butcher 62nd IB has once again wreaked havoc in Guihulngan City, Negros Oriental in the past two weeks. Cases of house raids, illegal occupation of public buildings, and other forms of state forces’ harassment of civilians have been recorded in the city.
On November 5, 16 soldiers raided the home of Loring Geronimo in Sitio Ponong, Barangay Trinidad. They asked for her husband and child, pointed high-caliber guns at her and her grandchild, and subjected the entire family to brutal interrogation.
In the same barangay on November 4, five 62nd IB soldiers in plainclothes went house-to-house and intimidated farmers who were accused of being “former comrades” by “surrenderers.” The soldiers did the same on October 28 in Sityo Kalambya.
On October 29, soldiers forcibly gathered residents of Barangay Trinidad for an assembly. They showed the residents pictures of individuals who were identified as “targets” for “surrender” to the government. The soldiers also distributed flyers related to the corrupt E-CLIP or Enhanced Comprehensive Local Integration Program. A similar forced gathering was held with barangay officials on October 27.
In Barangay Binobohan, soldiers illegally entered the home of Helen Bardok on November 5 without permission while she was at work.
The 62nd IB is currently led by Lt Col. Evelio Ilanga III. The unit is based in Barangay Libas, Isabela, Negros Occidental.
