More than 250 participants from 24 anti-war groups in the US attended the second national conference of the Anti-War Action Network (AWAN) in Chicago, Illinois on July 11-12. The group was founded in 2025 to unite US forces that oppose the destructive war drive, sanctions, and interventions of the US across the globe.

The group said it expanded broadly in just one year since its founding. Its members launched successful demonstrations and coordinated actions over the past year against the Donald Trump regime’s aggression against Iran, Venezuela, and Cuba.

It also actively joined actions against the Zionist Israel genocide against the Palestinian people. The group also held direct actions against corporations and companies involved in and sustaining U.S. warfare around the world.

Conference participants shared their collective experience through nine workshops that tackled different topics. One of the speakers was a representative of the BDS movement (boycott, divestment, and sanctions) against Israel.

The network has 28 member organizations, with many more wanting to join after the conference, according to AWAN. Bagong Alyansang Makabayan (Bayan)-USA and the progressive Korean group in the U.S., Nodutdol, sent their greetings and solidarity messages to the conference.

In anticipation of its expected growth, AWAN expanded its steering committee. The conference also passed 12 resolutions.

“The Anti-War Action Network’s guiding objective as an organization is building a broad movement opposed to the greatest cause of injustice in the world today, which is the United States and its destructive wars, sanctions and interventions,” key AWAN leader Meredith Aby said.
