Americans launch 7-million-strong No Kings protest

,

For the second time, people in the US held a ‘No Kings’ protest on October 18. “No Kings” is a nationwide action against the Donald Trump regime’s fascist and anti-people policies.

Seven million people attended demonstrations at more than 2,600 protest centers across all 50 states in the US. This action is the country’s largest this year and the third nationwide protest since Trump began his second term. The biggest gathering was held at the National Mall in Washington, DC, near the U.S. Capitol.

Filipinos’ national democratic organizations actively joined protest actions in the US to show solidarity with the broad US populace and to condemn Trump’s regime for its fascism. They also call for protection and justice for Filipino victims of discrimination, the US government’s illegal detention and deportation, and hold the Philippine government accountable for its blatant negligence and indifference to its citizens.

Dubbed ‘No Kings’, the protest denounced Trump’s behavior as a king rather than an elected president. It also called to kick him out of his ‘throne.’

Outside the US, ‘No Kings’ protests were also held in Canada, Germany, Portugal, Sweden, Prague, France, Iceland and London to show solidarity with the people of the US and express opposition to their own countries’ fascism and authoritarianism. In countries still with existing monarchies, their rallying cry became ‘No tyrants’ and ‘No dictators.’

The protest happened while the US government was on its 18th day of a ‘shutdown’ because Congress members failed to agree on the state budget for 2026. The shutdown halted many programs and services for the people and wages for many government workers. The Trump regime is exploiting this to lay off more government employees and further reduce the budget for services. About 4,000 government employees lost their jobs in recent weeks.

The No Kings protest also supports the widespread demonstrations in California, Portland, New York and Chicago condemning the violent targeting of immigrants in cities by Immigration and Customs Enforcement (ICE) and Trump’s deployment of US Marines and National Guard in so-called sanctuary states that recognize immigrant rights.

National Guard and US Marine troops are currently deployed in Washington, Memphis, Chicago and San Francisco to help pursue migrants and ‘protect’ ICE agents from protesters.

Deploying US troops into cities with strong resistance against the ICE pursuit and treating as “anti-American” all critics of Trump, his policies and his Republican Party clearly shows the Trump regime’s militarist and dictatorial trajectory.
