Bagong Alyansang Makabayan-Cavite condemned the Bacoor Component City Police Station (Bacoor CCPS) for red-tagging during their PNP Lecture and Community Outreach Program on March 31 in the urban poor community in Sityo Silangan, Barangay Talaba 7, Bacoor, Cavite.

The group says the Community Affairs Development and Public Information Office (CAD-PIO) of the Bacoor police red-tagged progressive organizations and local urban poor leaders of Sityo Silangan. After the program, the police even distributed “anti-terrorism” pamphlets containing pictures and names of legal organizations.

“Forcing to associate the activities, protests and legitimate grievances of the poor with terrorism,” the group states. Sityo Silangan is one of the communities in Bacoor town where urban poor residents face constant threats of demolition and eviction. Since 2019, they have experienced relentless intimidation, arson, “anti-drug” operations and harassment.

Led by JSHGM 88888 Inc. and agent Amy Gawaran are grabbing over 97-hectares of Sityo Silagan land. The land grabber plans to evict the residents from the site and expand the parking lot of the adjacent IT park and technology hub operated by CBC Asia Technozone. At least 200 families will be evicted and rendered homeless if the demolition goes ahead.

The group’s report says the plan to evict the residents still looms. On March 15, a demand letter was sent to Bagong Silangan (the peopel’s local mass organization in Talaba 7 and Niog 1) giving them only until March 31 before being forced out of their community.
