Boholanos set action against corruption
Boholanos will join the national day of protest this coming September 21 to denounce corruption and wrongdoing under the Marcos regime. Different sectors and organizations will participate in the demonstration at Plaza Rizal, Tagbilaran City, led by the broad alliance Lihok Bol-anon (Lihok Bol-anon Batok sa Korapsyon).
In the past weeks, revelations about government corruption in collusion with private companies, especially in relation to flood control projects, sparked the anger and protests of the Filipino people. In a limited list released by the government on the website “Isumbong Mo,” 78 flood control projects in the island may undergo investigation.
According to the group, these issues remind the people that corruption remains one of the deeply rooted problems in the country. “In situations like this, the people must demand accountability from their leaders, call for transparency, and ensure that justice will be achieved under the law,” Lihok Bol-anon stated.
Before the groups converge at Plaza Rizal, Lihok Bol-anon designated three gathering sites for the sectors. The program will feature speeches, songs, dances, and prayers against corruption. The group urged protest participants to wear white clothing to symbolize “purity and integrity.”
Lihok Bol-anon includes church leaders, universities and schools, mass organizations, and others. The newly established group Bohol Initiatives for Good Governance (BIGG) launched the initiative.
