Family of missing OFW in Saudi Arabia demands justice
Together with missing OFW Divina Yap’s family, Samahan ng mga DH sa Gitnang Silangan (SANDIGAN, or Association of Domestic Helpers in the Middle East) protested in front of the Department of Migrant Workers (DMW) on November 14. They held the department accountable for its inaction in Yap’s case. They also called for justice for their missing relative.
Yap’s family last spoke with her in 2023. On November 14 that year, she texted her sister saying that her life was in danger. When her sister followed up, Yap’s employer reported that she had run away. Yap took the risk of working abroad to provide a decent life for her six children.
As 2025 nears its end, her family still has no news about what happened to her. The family said they have sought help from various agencies but failed to get any information or assistance.
SANDIGAN condemned the department’s negligence toward migrants overseas and its slow process and response to their grievances.
