Groups opposing rampant corruption in the Philippines establish coalition in Hong Kong

, ,

Led by United Filipinos in Hong Kong, thirty representatives of Filipino groups for migrant workers, youth students, teachers, journalists, and church people gathered, on October 11 at KUC Space in Jordan to establish the coalition “Filipinos Against Corruption and Impunity Hong Kong (FilAction HK).”

According to the coalition, they plan to coordinate with various Hong Kong organizations and organize broad discussions and other activities to expose and express their condemnation against the ongoing rampant corruption related to flood control and other infrastructure projects in the Philippines.

Their plans include a Philippine national protest action on November 30, coinciding with Bonifacio Day, to call for the immediate accountability of politicians, contractors, and other individuals involved in plunderous corruption.

According to government data, ₱118.5 billion went only to fake flood control projects from 2023 to 2025. The Philippine Center for Investigative Journalism also exposed questionable projects, most of which are “ghost projects” that have not been implemented since 2016 or during the previous Duterte regime.

Participants in the gathering expressed disgust and outrage at the data on blatant corruption and the absence of accountability among those who plundered public funds. They said all involved must be imprisoned, and everything stolen must be returned. They also called for the release of the Statement of Assets, Liabilities and Net Worth of all public officials and even their bank accounts, if necessary. They also called to enact the Anti-Dynasty Law.
