Groups unite to launch demonstration against corruption in Pampanga

Concerned Citizens of Pampanga announced that it will lead a large demonstration against government corruption and anomalies on September 18 in San Fernando City, Pampanga. It will also hold a noise barrage on September 17, on the eve of the demonstration,

According to the group, corruption in the Philippines has reached an alarming level. “The public treasury is being stolen before it even reaches the people, a few use projects as milking cows, and power that should serve the people is being sold,” it said.

In recent weeks, Filipinos have continuously condemned the exposed anomalies and corruption, mainly in flood control projects. Favored contractors, bureaucrat capitalists, and Ferdinand Marcos Jr himself as head of government are involved in these issues.

“While the powerful continue to become wealthier, the ordinary people remain poor—deprived of jobs, lacking social services, and burdened by a system that favors a few,” the Concerned Citizens of Pampanga declared.

The group will highlight five main demands in the upcoming protest. These include carrying out an impartial investigation of the anomalies and holding all involved accountable.

“We unite as citizens of Pampanga and the whole nation to demand truth, justice, and accountability. We will not remain silent in the face of systematic corruption,” the group affirmed.

The Concerned Citizens of Pampanga is an association of individuals, church people, organizations, and various movements from different sectors of society that have united to expose and resist widespread corruption ravaging the country. The association includes Bagong Alyansang Makabayan-Central Luzon and other national democratic groups.

University of the Philippines-Clark students also took action and boycotted their classes on September 12 to protest the corruption of the Marcos regime. On September 13, a picket protest against corruption was also launched in Angeles City.
