Peasant leader couple in Cebu receive death threats
Two peasant leaders from Kilusang Magbubukid ng Pilipinas- Cebu (KMP-Cebu) were threatened on April 1 in Alonguinsan, Cebu. Susan Alcos and Dominador Malicay received a box containing a small coffin with their photos inside. This is clearly a threat to their lives, according to KMP Cebu.
Alcos is the current KMP-Cebu secretary and serves as Bayan Muna district coordinator while Malicay is KMP-Cebu’s education officer and was Anakpawis Partylist fourth nominee in the previous election. They are also active in campaigns against land conversion in Hacienda Gantuangco and Hacienda Paras in Alonguinsan and against the intensifying militarization in their district.
