Revolutionary scientists and engineers concurrentlty celebrated the League of Science for the People’s (LAB) 49th anniversary and the Communist Party of the Philippines’ 56th anniversary in December 2024. LAB’s Agham Bayan newspaper this January reported that their members gathered at an undisclosed location in the National Capital Region for a celebration.

LAB members shared a simple meal over the celebrations. They recalled and celebrated its chapters’ various achievements and challenges in the year 2024, especially during the first year of the rectification movement.

“They highlighted their achievements in the campaigns, in the resurgence of organizing among the basic masses, and in the improvement of generating support for the New People’s Army (NPA)”, according to the newspaper. LAB declared that it still needs to overcome a lot more including conservatism in recruiting new members.

The Agham Bayan’s editorial stated “it should be clear to us, as revolutionaries, that our main goal in launching the campaign is to respond to the interests of the masses and multiply and strengthen our revolutionary forces.” The LAB stated that this 2025, it will continue to uphold its duties to help advance and strengthen the Philippine revolution.

The LAB also honored all revolutionary martyrs from the science and technology sector who sacrificed their lives for the people and the revolution. “The lives of Aloysius Baes, Engr. Mon Ramirez, JM “Ka Simon” Ayuste, and many others, stand as an inspiration for scientists and engineers in the Philippines,” according to the editorial.

The LAB added that it showed them that it is possible for a scientist to fulfill the revolutionary duty to promote the national-democratic revolution with a socialist perspective, from urban laboratories and classrooms to the armed struggle in the countryside.

“Revolutionary scientists, engineers, professionals, and students will continue the rectification movement to achieve further victories,” it said. The LAB will also prepare for its golden anniversary in December.

During the celebration program, LAB representatives also performed their prepared cultural performances. They officially closed the gathering with the collective singing of the Internationale led by the LAB Chorale.
