Women's group calls for investigation on police prostituting Filipinas to US FBI personnel
Gabriela Representative Arlene Brosas is calling to investige the Philippine National Police for its reported pimping of Filipino women to US Federal Bureau of Investigation officials. FBI personnel have long been revealed to exploit prostituted women wherever they are stationed abroad.
In a report, the New York Times disclosed a US Department of Justice document that described the practices of FBI personnel who engaged in sexual activities with prostituted women in the Philippines, Cambodia, and Thailand from 2009 to 2018.
These foreigners were in these countries to attend training supposedly aimed at combating trafficking, which often involves women. Specifically in the Philippines, it was revealed that FBI personnel received “services” from exploited women paid for by PNP officials.
“The police themselves serve as pimps for foreign agents. Instead of protecting women from trafficking and prostitution, they are the ones selling our women,” Brosas condemned. She called for a thorough and independent investigation to identify those involved and determine which agencies should be held accountable for this heinous act.
“This kind of heinous exploitation of our women should not be tolerated. Everyone who condoned this illegal activity must be held accountable,” Brosas added. She emphasized that this news serves as a reminder of why all forms of violence against women, especially those perpetrated by those in power, must continuously be opposed.
