Distortion of history is not a novel idea. It has been a long-standing tactic of the oppressors to maintain the status quo and to prevent the people from recognizing the context of their existence and the power that they have always had in their hands.

On the 1972 Martial Law’s 50th year, the revolutionary movement in Bikol launches the Pagsalingoy asin Pagtanaw: Singkwentang Kwentong may Kwenta campaign to battle the revision of history and to ensure that the next generations will remain steadfast in their historical task of continuing the people’s democratic revolution. This year-long campaign resolves to release various stories from all over the country recounting not just the horrors of martial law but the triumph of the indomitable human spirit over one of the darkest moments of Philippine history.

With these stories, the Bikol revolutionary movement aims to contribute in preserving the threads of lives and struggle that make up the rich fabric of this nation. It recognizes that it is this and the next generation’s duty to remember the selfless devotion and love that all those who came before offered for the people’s liberation. And more than this, to continue the fight no matter what it takes.

NDF-Bikol calls on all victims and families of Martial Law to share their stories and be part of the fight to defend the nation’s history. As long as someone remembers and dares to fight, the people’s story and their revolution will never die.
