Validity of revolution is best defense against Red-tagging Expose the real terrorists of past and present times

On the same day that the Supreme Court issued a strong warning against expelled NTF-ELCAC member Lorraine Badoy for inciting violence towards one of their own, several students of two prominent Baguio universities received threats from unknown mobile numbers. Though occurring in two different regions, an oft-repeated question begs further contemplation: WHO’S THE REAL TERRORIST NOW?

In 2018, the Justice Department sought to have the Communist Party of the Philippines and the New People’s Army proclaimed as terrorists but Judge Marlo Magdoza-Malagar recently ruled unfavorably against this petition. The Cordillera People’s Democratic Front welcomes this decision in the face of rampant political persecution and fascist attacks against the national democratic movement.

One example is the threat of aggression against progressive youth and students inside their own campuses. In a cowardly manner, the individual/s or group/s issued the menacing messages without identifying themselves. Most twisted is their justification that violence is necessary to serve as warning for those who oppose the president. With the 50th anniversary of the bloody Martial Law barely concluded, this is another example of the name Marcos being synonymous with repression and terror. From when Marcos Sr. caused the death, torture, incarceration and disappearance of tens of thousands of Filipinos up until today that his junior is in power and violence seems the order of the day, the true terrorists have unwittingly announced themselves.

Then again, Badoy already took the terrorist’s way when she publicized her threats to one person’s life. This certain Badoy, she of notorious Red-tagger anti-Communist infamy, has crossed too many lines that even the Supreme Court is pressed to take action. Today, she had the temerity to barefacedly deny those threats despite all evidence, proclaim abhorrence to violence and pledge to destory CPP-NPA all in one breath.

A bourgeois court has already confirmed it: overthrowing a government through rebellion is not terrorism. Thus, to wage a revolution is not terrorism; it is neither evil nor malevolent. Moreover, under another Marcos rule where economic and political crisis grow deeper and fascism is intensified, advancing the revolution is necessary and urgent. The best defense against Red-baiting is to assert the validity of a national democratic struggle, from within the legal arena to the primary form that is armed revolution in the vast countryside. In due time, history will tell the world who the real terrorists are and who stood with the revolutionary masses despite the terror these reactionary minions wreaked. ###
