NDFP Condemns Abduction and Illegal Imprisonment of Alex Saab

,

The National Democratic Front of the Philippines (NDFP) strongly condemns the abduction and illegal imprisonment of Venezuelan diplomat, Alex Nain Saab Moran last October 16,2021.

Alex Nain Saab Moran is a Venezuela diplomat to the Russian Federaton and the Islamic Republic of Iran since April 2018, and Venezuela Ambassador Plenipotentiary Alternate to the African Union.

Saab had been imprisoned on the island of Cabo Verde since June 12, 2020, when the private plane he was traveling on from Venezuela to Iran was forced to land in Cabo Verde for a fuel stop. Two other African nations, under pressure from the United States, refused to let his plane land. At that time, he was on a humanitarian mission for Venezuela. His arrest and detention in Cabo Verde has been made without any proper legal basis.

In Cabo Verde, Saab was tortured physically and psychologically by the officials of the Trump government and Cabo Verde officials. He was placed under house arrest, watched 24 hours a day by an average of 50 military men. He is suffering from cancer and has not been given medical attention.

On June 8, 2021, the United Nations Human Rights Committee issued a decision for preliminary measures demanding that the extradition of Saab be suspended and that he be given the necessary medical attention.

On October 16, Saab was kidnapped for the second time, this time by US officials who acted without extradition orders. He is now being illegally held in Miami, Florida.

Saab was on his way to Iran to negotiate the exchange of Venezuelan gold for much needed gasoline supplies. He was also going to negotiate the purchase of food, medicines and other critical supplies which are difficult to obtain in Venezuela because of US sanctions.

The National Democratic Front of the Philippines demands the immediate release of Alex Nain Saab Moran and his immediate return to Venezuela.
