Night of cruel bombing in Misamis Occidental, Zamboanga del Sur, Mati towns
The Communist Party of the Philippines (CPP) condemns the Armed
Forces of the Philippines (AFP) 1st Infantry Division for
mounting a cruel night of bombing in Zamboanga del Sur, Misamis
Occidental and Mati towns forcing people to leave their homes
out of fear.
On April 26, the 1st ID AFP dropped 38 bombs in the coastal
towns of Sinacaban and Jimenez in Misamis Occidental in a cruel
bombing raid conducted from nine in the evening to around four
in the morning the following day.
At one in the morning of April 27, the AFP also dropped several
bombs in Dapiwak and other populated villages of Dumingag,
Zamboanga del Sur. This bombing run was carried out following
an encounter between elements of the 1st ID in Barangay Saad,
Dumingag at 2 p.m. of April 26 where three AFP soldiers were
killed and several others wounded.
An undetermined number of families have been forced to evacuate
amidst fear of the campaign of terror being conducted by the
AFP. Under martial law, the 1st ID has been carrying out
intensified military operations across Misamis Occidental and
the Zamboanga provinces.
On the same night, forces of the 28th IB under the 10th ID
launched artillery fire against the populated barangays of San
Isidro and Likop in Mati town. Bombs rained at 5-7 p.m. and
9-12 p.m. forcing at least fifty families to evacuate. The
artillery attack against the civilians villages was mounted a
few hours after an NPA ambush in the adjacent town of Lupon.
Using images of the destruction of Marawi City, the AFP has been
conducting aerial bombardment campaigns around Mindanao and
across the country in a vain attempt to instill fear among the
people.
