Respect rights of injured Red fighters in Samar clash—NDF-EV
The National Democratic Front-Eastern Visayas has received reports regarding armed clashes between a unit of the New People’s Army and the 46th Infantry Battalion yesterday, September 13, in Barangay Concepcion, Paranas, Western Samar.
Initial reports indicate that Red fighter Gerry dela Cruz (Ka Justin) was killed, while Red fighters “Aye” and “Tin-tin” are wounded and are currently being held by the fascist state troops.
We are still confirming the details from the NPA unit overseeing operations in the area. Meanwhile, we are calling for the swift medical attention for the injured Red fighters. Their rights as captured combatants under international humanitarian law must be respected.
We issue this statement full aware of the AFP modus operandi of subjecting Red fighters to intense physical and mental torture while being held in secret captivity. Others have been summarily killed even when they are already clearly subdued. We call on local and international human rights groups to help ensure that the rights of the NPA hors de combat be respected.
