CARMMA condemns dismissal of 9th case against Marcos family

,

The Campaign Against the Return of the Marcoses and Martial Law (CARMMA) condemned the dismissal by the Sandiganbayan of yet another case to recover the stolen wealth of the Marcos family. This case involved the Marcos crony Fernando Timbol, the “photographer” of Ferdinand Marcos Sr’s mother Josefa Edralin-Marcos.

This is the ninth of the cases dismissed since Ferdinand Marcos Jr took office in Malacanang. In addition are six more dismissed cases filed against the former dictator’s cronies.

These dismissed cases involved more than ₱200 billion. The Marcos family amassed an estimated total value of over ₱500 billion in stolen wealth during the Marcos dictatorship from 1972-1986.

According to the group, the pattern of these cases’ dismissal is “disgusting” amid the Marcos family’s blatant display of their use of public funds during the dictatorship. Many courts overseas have proven that the family stole these funds from the Filipino people.

The group sees that one of the key objectives of Marcos Jr when he took office as president is to ensure that they hold on to their plundered wealth, and to further amass public funds, as seen in the many corruption cases he is currently facing.

CARMMA remains firm in its stance that the Marcoses, both the dictator father and his son, should be held accountable for cases of corruption, human rights violations, and oppression of the Filipino people.
