Church groups establish election fraud watchdog in Cebu

The Catholic Church in Cebu established the group Kontra Tikas on February 17 to serve as an independent watchdog for the 2025 election. San Carlos Diocese bishop Rev. Gerardo Alminaza led the gathering at the Archbishop’s Residence, in partnership with the Cebu Archidiocesan Social Advocates. Representatives from various faiths, schools, organizations, and movements participated.

Kontra Tikas is inspired from a similar group called Kontra Daya which is based in Metro Manila. It will be composed of various organizations and individuals with the aim of promoting the common good and encouraging citizens to uphold social and political accountability.

According to the group, it will conduct seminars for voters education, media and social media protection, networking and alliance building, and election monitoring.
