Daiwa Seiko Philippines workers successfully negotiate new CBA
Just one day after the workers of Daiwa Seiko Philippines Corporation announced their plan to strike, the company’s capitalists agreed with the Free Union of DSPC-Organized Labor Association in Line Industries and Agriculture-Kilusang Mayo Uno (MUDSPC-OLALIA-KMU) to a new collective bargaining agreement (CBA). The union voted in favor of the strike on November 12, and the CBA was signed on November 13.
The union obtained 179 “yes” votes and one “no” vote to go on strike due to the company’s lowballing on their CBA. The union also held a protest action at the factory on that day. Prior to this, the workers, led by the union, have been holding collective actions almost weekly.
As a result of these actions, the workers secured additional pay, other benefits, and rights. They obtained a ₱50 increase for 2024 and 2025, and an additional ₱21 in pay in line with the government’s increase in the minimum wage in Region IV-A.
The union also won a ₱47,000 signing bonus. The union ensured that workers would receive retirement, sickness, and death insurance. The agreement also stipulates that other negotiated terms at the plant level and with the National Conciliation and Mediation Board will be implemented in the CBA.
With the signing of the CBA, the union’s Notice of Strike and strike vote were withdrawn. “We win when united and with the right call to the capitalists,” a company worker stated.
Daiwa Seiko produces plastic parts and vehicle components. The company’s factory is located within the Laguna International Industrial Park in Biñan, Laguna.
