Farmers condemn eviction in Pili, Camarines Sur
Farmers from barangays Sagurong, Cadlan, and San Jose in the town of Pili condemned the local government of Camarines Sur for planning to drive them out of their lands. The CamSur Uptown and Iconic Capitol projects are set to rise on their farmland.
About 200 hectares of agricultural and residential land will be converted. The project will evict more than 100 peasants and residents. Planned structures on the land include a firing range and a golf course under CamSur Uptown.
The capitol is already planning to fill their lands even when it has not released any compensation, the farmers said. The government offers only ₱25,000 in compensation and has not provided any relocation site. Worse, the demolition will include concrete houses built over decades of hard work by migrant workers who had returned home.
Residents demand just compensation and proper consultation before implementing any project. They said the government must value their hard-earned property and respect their rights.
