Filipino migrants join global action against corruption

,

Various organizations under Kilusang Bayan Kontra Kurakot-Global (People’s Movement Against Corruption-Global) held protests in their respective countries from November 28 to 30 to condemn the widespread corruption in the Philippines. This is also part of the national protest against corruption held in different parts of the country on November 30.

According to Bagong Alyansang Makabayan (Bayan) International, nearly 2,000 Filipino migrants and allies in 30 cities across 23 countries participated in the global action. Leading these activities include Bayan-International, and chapters of Migrante, Gabriela, and Anakbayan in different countries.

The organizations held various activities such as protests in front of Philippine embassies and consulates, assemblies in parks and city centers, forums, studies, open mic events, film showings, selfie protests, cultural performances, donation drives for typhoon victims, and pamphlet distribution. These were held in Austria, Australia, Bahrain, Belgium, Canada, France, Germany, Israel, Italy, Japan, Jordan, Kenya, Kuwait, the Netherlands, New Zealand, Qatar, Saudi Arabia, South Korea, Spain, Taiwan, Thailand, United Arab Emirates, United Kingdom, and United States.

“Filipinos overseas unite with their compatriots in the Philippines in calling to hold all corrupt officials accountable, and this must begin with Marcos and Duterte. They are stealing our nation’s wealth, our remittances, and the future of our families,” Bayan-International’s Andan Bonifacio explained.

“Why must every Filipino abroad take a stand and fight against the corruption of the current administration? Because your migration is not a ‘free choice’—it is the result of a rotten system worsened by political dynasties and plunder,” Father Aris Miranda, of Promotion of Church People’s Response-the Netherlands, said.

According to the group, the only solution to social transformation lies in the united strength of the Filipino people, not merely in toppling Marcos and Duterte or establishing a transition council. The struggle against corruption or bureaucrat capitalism remains one of Gat Andres Bonifacio’s unfinished revolutions for national democracy. The group declared that this is a struggle the people will surely win.
