Illegally terminated construction workers stand firm for separation pay
Illegally terminated workers from the AC Mojares Construction picketed before the company’s office on Tandang Sora Avenue, Barangay Culiat, Quezon City today, October 29, to demand a rightful separation pay.
According to the Alliance of Nationalist and Genuine Labor Organizations-Kilusang Mayo Uno (ANGLO-KMU), the ₱10,000 separation pay offered to them during a hearing at the National Labor Relations Commission (NLRC) today is an insult. The terminated workers have been working for the company for 4 to 19 years.
The federation added that the workers are also demanding back pay for unpaid overtime, holidays, rest days, and night shift differentials.
ANGLO-KMU is calling for support for the workers, especially in their upcoming actions.
AC Mojares Construction was founded by Alejandro C. Mojares in 1974. The company has contracts with the local government of Quezon City, Department of Public Works and Highways (DPWH), Philippine Long Distance Telephone Co. (PLDT), Coca Cola Bottlers Philippines, Inc. (CCBPI), UP Los Baños Metropolitan Waterworks and Sewerage System (MWSS), Maynilad Water Services Inc. (MWSI), Manila Water Company Inc. (MWCI) and other private institutions.
The company constructs roads, walls, bridges, buildings, water lines, and more, earning millions from these contracts.
